About This Design

Hexagonal engagement rings are rare. They sit outside the traditional shape catalogue, and designing one well means starting from scratch rather than adapting an existing template. The Favus was created for Callum and Courtney, a couple from Wilmslow, and every element of this ring was drawn from their story. The name comes from the Latin favus, meaning honeycomb, a reference to the six-sided geometry that defines both the stone and the character of this piece.

Courtney wanted something bold but personal. She was drawn to hexagonal diamonds and split shank designs, and from that starting point the brief evolved into something far richer. Born in Germany with a British Army family background and now settled near Stoke, her personality shaped every detail. The intertwining shoulders represent the sea she loves, flowing around the stone like currents meeting. The small diamond accents nestled where the shoulders converge are a nod to the stars and astronomy that fascinate her, tiny points of light set against the warm gold. The result is a ring that feels vintage in its warmth and detailing but unmistakably modern in its architecture.

The centre stone is a 2ct hexagonal step-cut diamond, set in 18ct yellow gold. Step-cut facets produce broad, clean flashes of light rather than the rapid sparkle of a brilliant cut. In a hexagonal shape, the effect is striking. The geometric lines of the stone contrast with the organic, flowing movement of the crossover band, and that tension between structure and fluidity is what gives the Favus its presence on the hand.

Design Details

The crossover shoulders are the defining structural feature. Each side of the band sweeps up and crosses over itself before meeting the stone, creating an open, sculptural gallery when viewed from the side. This is not a simple split shank. The bands genuinely intertwine, requiring precise engineering to maintain both the visual flow and the structural integrity needed for everyday wear.

Where the shoulders converge beneath the stone, small round brilliant diamonds are grain set into the gold. These accent stones are deliberately understated. They catch the light at certain angles but never compete with the centre diamond. The setting holds the hexagonal stone in six claws positioned at each point of the hexagon, following the natural geometry of the cut rather than imposing a round or square claw pattern onto it.

The band tapers as it moves away from the shoulders toward the back of the ring, keeping the overall profile comfortable against the finger. The gallery is open, allowing light to enter the stone from below and enhancing the broad flashes that step-cut diamonds are known for. Viewed from behind, the architecture of the crossover is fully visible, making this a ring that rewards attention from every angle.

The Story

Callum came to us with a clear vision and a deep understanding of what Courtney would love. The brief was detailed, from the hexagonal shape to the crossover band, from the 2ct size preference to the warm gold that suited her style. What made this project special was the way her personality informed the design language. The flowing shoulders were not just an aesthetic choice but a deliberate reflection of her love for the sea. The accent diamonds were not decorative filler but a quiet tribute to her fascination with stars and the night sky.

Every bespoke ring we create at Si Vis Amari begins with a conversation like this one. We listen to the story before we pick up a pencil. The Favus took shape over several consultations, with Callum involved at every stage, refining proportions and approving details until every element felt right.

He proposed near a lake, and the message that followed said everything: “She said yes. I just wanted to say a massive thank you for all that you have done. She absolutely adores the ring.”

That is what bespoke means to us. Not just a custom specification, but a ring that carries meaning in every line and curve.

The Favus was made specifically for Callum and Courtney by experienced craftspeople who understand that a bespoke commission is about getting someone else’s vision exactly right. Frequently Asked Questions

What is a hexagonal engagement ring?

A hexagonal engagement ring features a six-sided diamond or gemstone as the centre stone. Hexagonal diamonds are typically step-cut, producing broad, clean flashes of light rather than the rapid sparkle of a brilliant cut. They are an uncommon choice that suits people looking for something geometric and distinctive. The Favus pairs a hexagonal step-cut diamond with flowing crossover shoulders for a design that balances bold geometry with organic movement.

Can you make a bespoke hexagonal diamond ring?

Yes. The Favus is one example of what is possible with a hexagonal centre stone, but every bespoke commission is designed from scratch around your brief. We can work with hexagonal diamonds in different sizes, set in platinum or 18ct gold, with any band style or accent detail you have in mind. Get in touch to start the conversation.

How much does a bespoke engagement ring cost?

Bespoke engagement rings are priced on consultation because the cost depends on the design complexity, the centre stone size and quality, and the metal. We provide a detailed quote before any work begins, so there are no surprises. Contact us with your ideas and we will give you an honest indication of cost from the outset.

How long does a bespoke ring take to make?

Most bespoke engagement rings take between six and eight weeks from final design approval to completion. This includes sourcing the stone, crafting the mount, setting, and hallmarking. If you are working to a specific deadline such as a proposal date, let us know early and we will plan around it.

Carat weights shown are approximate. Your diamond will be within the stated range (e.g. a 0.75ct selection may be 0.73–0.78ct). Exact weight and specification confirmed at time of order.
