About This Design

Art deco ruby engagement rings with french cut trapezoid channel set shoulders demand precision that most jewellers would rather avoid, and the Ardeo exists because we refused to take shortcuts. Named from the Latin for “to glow,” the Ardeo is built around a mesmerizing 1.67ct natural ruby verified by AnchorCert Gem Lab at the Birmingham Assay Office, set horizontally in a clean semi rub-over setting that lets the depth of colour speak for itself.

The inspiration came from a vintage design that caught our clients attention for the way it used the shoulders to frame the centre stone. Recreating it was the challenge. The original featured French cut trapezoid diamonds graduated along each shoulder, and sourcing those stones proved to be the most demanding part of the entire build. French cut trapezoids at the sizes and calibration this design required simply do not exist off the shelf. We had each stone individually cut to specification.

The result is a ring that looks deceptively simple. That simplicity took months of planning, precise measurement, and the kind of patience that separates bespoke jewellery from everything else.

Design Details

The ruby sits in an east-west orientation within a semi rub-over setting, a deliberate choice that gives the stone a wider visual presence across the finger while keeping the profile low and elegant. This horizontal setting is one of the defining characteristics of art deco ring design, and it gives the Ardeo a distinctive silhouette that stands apart from conventional centre stone orientations.

Fourteen French cut trapezoid diamonds line the shoulders, seven on each side, graduated from 0.25ct nearest the ruby down to 0.05ct at the band. Every stone is F colour, VS1 clarity. The graduated sizing creates a tapered visual flow that draws the eye naturally toward the centre stone. These diamonds are channel set into the shoulders, producing an unbroken surface of light with no metal interruptions between the stones. The mesmerising optical effect of French cut diamonds is quite unlike any other cut. The broad, open facets create bold geometric flashes of light rather than the fine sparkle of a brilliant cut, which is exactly what this art deco design calls for.

From the through-finger perspective, the open shoulders and exposed basket allow light to flood through the setting. The architecture of the gallery is a design feature in its own right, not hidden beneath the finger but deliberately visible, giving the ring a sense of lightness and structural elegance from every angle.

The Ardeo is available in platinum, 18ct yellow gold, 18ct white gold, or 18ct rose gold. Platinum is the natural partner for this design, complementing the cool tones of the F colour diamonds and allowing the ruby to carry all the warmth.

The Ruby

The centre stone in the Ardeo is a 1.67ct natural ruby, verified by the AnchorCert Gem Lab at the Birmingham Assay Office. AnchorCert is one of the most respected independent gem laboratories in the UK, and verification through their lab provides an objective assessment of the stone’s identity, treatment status, and characteristics.

Natural rubies of this quality are rare. Unlike mass-market ruby jewellery that relies on heavily treated or synthetic stones, the Ardeo is set with a genuine, natural ruby chosen for its colour saturation, clarity, and presence. This is an engagement ring for someone who values authenticity and wants a centre stone with real provenance.

How to Order

The Ardeo is a bespoke commission. Because of the complexity of sourcing and cutting French cut trapezoid diamonds to the exact specifications this design requires, each ring is quoted individually. Get in touch to discuss the Ardeo, and we will walk you through the process, timelines, and pricing.

If you have a ruby of your own that you would like to set in this design, or you would like to explore alternative centre stones, we are happy to discuss the options. Every Ardeo is made to order, and every detail can be tailored to your requirements.

Crafted by Hand

Every Si Vis Amari ring is handcrafted individually and hallmarked in accordance with UK law. The Ardeo is made specifically for you by experienced craftspeople who understand that every piece tells a story. From the initial consultation through to the finished ring, every step reflects a commitment to getting the details right.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Ardeo different from other ruby engagement rings?

The Ardeo is an art deco inspired ruby engagement ring featuring a horizontally set 1.67ct natural ruby with fourteen graduated French cut trapezoid diamonds channel set into the shoulders. The French cut stones were individually cut to specification because stones of this calibration are not commercially available. It is a true bespoke design that took months of planning and precise measurement to achieve.

What are French cut trapezoid diamonds?

French cut diamonds are a historic cutting style with large, open facets arranged in a geometric pattern. The trapezoid shape means the stone tapers from one end to the other, which is what allows them to graduate along the shoulder of a ring. They produce bold, architectural flashes of light rather than the fine sparkle of modern brilliant cuts, making them perfectly suited to art deco ring designs.

Can the Ardeo be made in different metals?

Yes. The Ardeo is available in platinum, 18ct yellow gold, 18ct white gold, or 18ct rose gold. Platinum is the natural choice for this design as it complements the cool tones of the F colour VS1 diamonds and lets the ruby provide all the warmth, but each metal gives the ring a different character.

How much does the Ardeo ruby engagement ring cost?

The Ardeo is priced on a bespoke basis because each commission involves sourcing and cutting French cut trapezoid diamonds to exact specifications. Contact us for a detailed quote. We will walk you through every element of the build so you understand exactly what is involved and what you are paying for.

Can I use my own ruby in this design?

Absolutely. If you have a natural ruby you would like us to set in the Ardeo design, we can assess the stone and adapt the setting dimensions accordingly. The shoulder diamonds would still need to be individually cut to match, so the consultation process remains the same.
