About This Design
The story of a bespoke emerald engagement ring. David came to us with one certainty , Whitney loves emeralds. It runs in the family. Her grandmother wore an emerald ring for decades, and it was that very ring, quietly borrowed during what David describes as a “military-level reconnaissance operation,” that gave us her finger size. Three months of planning had begun.
Whitney’s other great love is peacocks. Not as a passing interest, a genuine, lifelong fascination with the bird and everything it represents. When David told us this, the design direction became clear. We didn’t want a ring that simply featured an emerald. We wanted a ring that told Whitney’s story.
The Design
The Peacock is set in platinum with an emerald-cut emerald as the centre stone, chosen after several visits examining stones for the right combination of colour, lustre, and jardin. Emeralds are graded differently to diamonds; their natural inclusions, known in the trade as the “jardin” or garden, are part of what gives each stone its unique character. Finding the right emerald means balancing vivid colour with the stone’s internal world, too clean and it loses personality, too included and it loses brilliance.
The shoulders of the ring are where The Peacock truly comes to life. Each side is hand-engraved to replicate the delicate barbs of a peacock feather, flowing outward from a pear-shaped royal blue sapphire set into the heart of each feather, the “eye.” The colour palette is deliberate: the deep green of the emerald, the rich blue of the sapphires, and the cool white of the platinum mirror the iridescent tones of a peacock in full display.
The engraving was done entirely by hand. There is no casting shortcut for this kind of detail, each line is cut individually into the platinum, requiring steady hands and absolute precision. It’s the kind of work that cannot be rushed and cannot be replicated identically, which means Whitney’s ring is truly one of a kind.
From Design to Reality
The process from first consultation to finished ring took approximately three months. It began with David’s brief and our initial concept sketches, moved through detailed technical drawings and a full CAD render to confirm proportions and stone placement, and culminated in the hand-engraving and final setting of the emerald and sapphires.
Every stage involved David’s input. He saw the design evolve from pencil sketches inspired by a real peacock feather to the precise technical drawings that our craftspeople worked from. The CAD render allowed him to see the ring in three dimensions before a single piece of metal was touched , ensuring every detail was exactly right before we committed to platinum.
The Moment
David proposed in a private setting. His words afterwards said everything: “She absolutely loved it. I can’t describe how much I appreciate your help.”
That reaction is why we do what we do.
