About This Design
Cushion halo engagement rings frame one of the oldest diamond shapes in jewellery with a border of brilliance that amplifies its soft, romantic proportions. The Pulvinar Aureola, Latin for “cushion halo,” pairs a cushion modified brilliant diamond with a halo of diamonds that follows the gentle, pillowy outline of the centre stone. The halo is not generic. It is built to the exact dimensions of the individual diamond, so the surrounding stones sit tight against the centre with no uneven gaps.
The centre stone is a cushion modified brilliant, producing a lively, icy sparkle with smaller, more numerous reflections than a classic cushion brilliant. Set within the halo and carried on split-claw diamond shoulders, the overall effect is a ring that delivers serious presence without any heaviness. The cathedral framework lifts the diamond into the light while the 1.9mm parallel band keeps the profile refined and wearable.
Design Details
The Pulvinar Aureola is built on a cathedral setting. The gallery arches rise from the band to cradle the halo platform, creating a solid, architectural structure that protects the centre stone while allowing light to enter from the sides. The cathedral profile gives the ring a classic, elevated look from every angle.
The shoulders carry split-claw set diamonds that extend the sparkle from the halo down into the band. Split-claw setting holds each shoulder diamond with paired claws on either side, giving maximum light access to every stone while keeping them secure for everyday wear. The 1.9mm band runs parallel from shoulder to shoulder, maintaining a consistent width that sits comfortably on the finger and pairs cleanly with a straight wedding band.
The halo diamonds are calibrated to the cushion outline, following the soft rounded corners precisely. This is where the distinction between a well-made cushion halo engagement ring and a mass-produced one becomes obvious. A halo that does not account for the individual stone’s proportions will leave gaps or sit unevenly. Ours is constructed around the specific diamond it will hold.
The Pulvinar Aureola is designed to sit flush with a straight wedding ring. You do not need a shaped or contoured band unless you prefer that look.
Your Diamond
The Pulvinar Aureola is available with both lab-grown and natural diamonds, so you can choose the stone that best reflects your values and budget.
Our lab-grown diamonds are graded to D or E colour with VS1 to VVS1 clarity. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, optically, and physically identical to mined diamonds. They are real diamonds, certified independently by the IGI or GIA.
For natural diamonds, we source stones individually to match your requirements. The ring shown features an approximately 0.8 carat natural G colour VS1 clarity cushion modified brilliant diamond, GIA certified. Request a natural diamond quote through the configurator or get in touch directly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a cushion halo engagement ring?
A cushion cut diamond surrounded by a border of smaller diamonds that follows the soft, rounded outline of the cushion shape. The halo amplifies the visual size of the centre stone and adds continuous brilliance around its edges. The Pulvinar Aureola combines this with split-claw diamond shoulders and a cathedral setting for a complete, detailed design.
What is a cushion modified brilliant diamond?
A cushion modified brilliant has an adapted faceting arrangement with extra facets on the pavilion, producing a lively, icy sparkle with smaller, more numerous reflections. It differs from a classic cushion brilliant, which produces broader, warmer flashes of light. The distinction is noted on the GIA or IGI certificate. Learn more on our cushion cut engagement rings page.
Will the Pulvinar Aureola sit flush with a wedding ring?
Yes. The Pulvinar Aureola is designed so a straight wedding band sits flush against the engagement ring without any gap. You do not need a shaped or contoured wedding ring unless you prefer that look.
Can I customise the Pulvinar Aureola?
Yes. The ring shown is in platinum with a cushion modified brilliant diamond, but every element can be adapted. Choose from platinum, 18ct yellow gold, white gold, or rose gold. Select a different carat weight or diamond specification. If you want a classic cushion brilliant instead of a modified brilliant, or a different shoulder style, get in touch and we will design it around your preferences.
Carat weights shown are approximate. Your diamond will be within the stated range. Exact weight and specification confirmed at time of order.
