About This Design

Oval trilogy engagement rings pair one of the most flattering diamond shapes with the symbolic weight of three stones, and the Cascata is our take on how that combination should look. The name comes from the Italian for cascade, a reference to the way the oval centre stone flows into two pear-shaped side stones that taper gently away from it. There are no hard edges or abrupt transitions. The whole design moves.

At the centre sits a 1 carat GIA certified natural diamond, F colour, VS1 clarity, with outstanding optics and no bow tie. The oval measures 8.13 x 5.69mm, giving it a length to width ratio of 1.43, which produces a balanced, classic oval shape with an excellent spread for its carat weight. It looks bigger than a one carat stone has any right to, because the proportions are right.

The two pear-shaped side stones sit either side of the oval, points facing outward, with a total weight of approximately 0.22 carats. They were selected to match the colour and clarity of the centre stone so that the three diamonds read as one continuous line of light rather than three separate stones that happen to be next to each other.

The Cascata is crafted entirely in 18ct yellow gold. There is no two-tone metalwork here. The warm gold is part of the design language, giving the ring a softness that suits the organic shapes of the oval and pears. It is a different character to angular step cut trilogy rings, and that is entirely the point.

Design Details

The oval centre stone is held in talon claws that grip the diamond with visible structure, keeping the setting secure while allowing maximum light into the stone from all sides. The pear-shaped side stones use a different claw arrangement. Each pear has talon claws along the rounded end and protective V-tip claws at the pointed ends, which shield the most vulnerable part of the diamond from chipping. That attention to the points is one of those details that separates a well-made pear diamond setting from a careless one.

The gallery is a straight design, clean and uncluttered when viewed from the side. The through-finger view reveals an organic crossover where the band meets the head, with open daylight shoulders that let light pass beneath the stones. Step cut trilogy rings often have a more architectural gallery, but the Cascata keeps things fluid and natural to match the soft shapes above.

The band is 18ct yellow gold, 1.8mm wide with a parallel profile that runs the same width all the way around. The shape is a slight court, meaning a gentle curve on the inside for comfortable everyday wear. At 1.8mm the band is deliberately slim, keeping the visual emphasis on the three stones rather than the metalwork.

For wedding ring compatibility, a straight band will sit flush alongside the Cascata. The pear side stones sit above the band line, so there is no gap. A plain 18ct yellow gold wedding band would be the natural match.

Your Diamond

The Cascata shown here features a natural GIA certified oval diamond. We source every centre stone individually, assessing cut quality, light performance, and proportions before committing. For oval diamonds in particular, we check for bow tie effect, length to width ratio, and overall spread to ensure the stone looks its best in the setting.

The Cascata is available with both lab-grown and natural diamonds. Our lab-grown diamonds are graded to D or E colour with VS1 to VVS1 clarity and an Excellent or Ideal cut. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, optically, and physically identical to mined diamonds, certified independently by the IGI or GIA.

For natural diamonds, we source stones to match your requirements on colour, clarity, and carat weight. Get in touch for a natural diamond quote.

Crafted by Hand

Every Si Vis Amari ring is handcrafted individually and hallmarked at the Birmingham Assay Office in accordance with UK law. The Cascata is made specifically for you by experienced craftspeople who understand that every piece tells a story. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is an oval trilogy engagement ring made once, for one person, by hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the Cascata use pear shaped side stones instead of round diamonds?

Pear shaped side stones follow the natural curves of an oval centre diamond in a way that round brilliants cannot. The tapered points of the pears flow away from the oval, creating a continuous cascading line across all three stones. Round side stones would create a more segmented look with clear gaps between each shape. The oval and pear trilogy combination gives the Cascata its fluid, organic character and makes the ring appear longer on the finger.

What is a good length to width ratio for an oval diamond engagement ring?

Most people find that a length to width ratio between 1.35 and 1.50 produces the most balanced oval shape. The Cascata’s centre stone has a ratio of 1.43, which sits right in that range. Below 1.30 and the oval starts to look round. Above 1.55 and it can appear elongated. We assess every oval diamond individually and will help you find the right proportions for your ring during your consultation.

Can I order the Cascata in a different metal?

Yes. The Cascata shown here is 18ct yellow gold, but it can also be made in platinum, 18ct white gold, or 18ct rose gold. The warm yellow gold complements the soft shapes of the oval and pear diamonds particularly well, but the design works beautifully in any metal. We will help you choose during your consultation at our Didsbury or Manchester studio.

How much does an oval and pear trilogy engagement ring cost?

Pricing for the Cascata depends on your choice of diamond specification, carat weight, and whether you choose lab-grown or natural diamonds. The centre stone has the biggest impact on cost. Book a consultation for a detailed, no-obligation quote.

What are V-tip claws and why are they used on the pear diamonds?

V-tip claws are small metal caps that cover the pointed ends of pear and marquise shaped diamonds. The points are the thinnest part of the stone and the most vulnerable to chipping from everyday knocks. A V-tip claw wraps around the point to protect it without hiding the diamond. On the Cascata, the pear side stones have talon claws along their rounded ends and V-tip claws at the points, combining secure hold with full protection where it matters most.

Carat weights shown are approximate. Your diamond will be within the stated range (e.g. a 0.75ct selection may be 0.73–0.78ct). Exact weight and specification confirmed at time of order.
