About This Design

The orchid engagement ring is one of the most sculptural pieces in our unique engagement rings collection. The Orchid takes its inspiration from the Chinese orchid, a flower that has symbolised refinement, beauty and integrity in Eastern culture for thousands of years. It is a ring that feels alive, with movement and organic flow built into every angle of the design.

The shank is formed from intertwining open vines that wrap continuously around the finger before rising to form the setting itself. There is no separation between band and head. The vines simply grow upward and open into five delicate petals, each one acting as a claw to cradle the diamond. This is not a conventional claw setting with a decorative band underneath. The entire ring is one continuous, sculpted form. This is a truly unique flower engagement ring.

Five-claw settings are rare in engagement ring design, and for good reason. An odd number of prongs creates asymmetry that is difficult to resolve visually, especially when viewed from different angles. The Orchid embraces that challenge. The asymmetry is intentional and carefully considered, giving the ring a different character from every perspective. From the side, the vine structure dominates. From the top, the five petals frame the diamond with an unmistakable floral silhouette. From the back, the open gallery reveals the organic lattice that holds everything together.

This is a flower engagement ring for someone who wants something genuinely original. Not a diamond with a decorative flourish, but a piece of wearable sculpture that happens to hold a beautiful stone at its centre.

Design Details

The Orchid was designed using sculpting software, which allows for the kind of organic, free-flowing geometry that traditional CAD struggles to achieve. Every curve in the vine shank has been shaped by hand on screen, refined over multiple iterations to balance visual weight, structural integrity and comfort on the finger.

The intertwining vine shank is open in construction, meaning you can see through the band from the side. The two vine strands twist around each other as they travel around the finger, creating depth and shadow that changes with movement. As the vines reach the top of the ring, they separate and open outward to form five individual petals. Each petal doubles as a claw, gripping the diamond securely while maintaining the botanical silhouette.

The five-claw arrangement means the diamond sits slightly differently to a standard four or six-prong setting. With five points of contact evenly distributed around the girdle, the stone has a distinct rotational character. Light enters the diamond from slightly different angles than a conventional setting, and the petal tips frame the stone without crowding it.

The ring is crafted in platinum, which complements the sculptural detail with its naturally white, dense finish. Platinum does not require rhodium plating and will develop a soft patina over time that enhances the organic quality of the design. The Orchid is also available in 18ct white gold, 18ct yellow gold and 18ct rose gold through the configurator. Our 18ct white gold uses a high palladium alloy that maintains its silver-white colour without rhodium plating, making it an excellent alternative to platinum.

Despite the complexity of the vine structure, The Orchid has been carefully designed to allow a straight wedding band to sit flush alongside it. This was a deliberate design decision. The vine strands taper and flatten as they pass through the base of the setting, keeping the profile clean enough for a standard band to sit comfortably without the need for a shaped or custom wedding ring. Your Diamond

The Orchid is available with both lab-grown and natural diamonds, so you can choose the stone that best reflects your values and budget.

Our lab-grown diamonds are graded to D or E colour with VS1 to VVS1 clarity and an Excellent or Ideal cut. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, optically and physically identical to mined diamonds. They are real diamonds, certified independently by the IGI or GIA.

For natural diamonds, we source stones individually to match your requirements. Request a natural diamond quote through the configurator or get in touch directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this orchid engagement ring different from other flower rings?

Most floral engagement rings use decorative petal details around a conventional claw setting. The Orchid is different because the flower is the setting. The vine shank grows continuously from the band into five sculptural petals that hold the diamond. The entire ring is one organic form designed using 3D sculpting software, not a standard mount with floral embellishments added on top.

Why does The Orchid have five claws instead of four or six?

The five-claw design is inspired by the five petals of the Chinese orchid. Five prongs are rare in engagement ring design because they create natural asymmetry that is difficult to make visually pleasing. We spent considerable time refining the petal proportions so the ring looks balanced and beautiful from every angle, giving it a truly alternate and distinctive character.

Can I wear a straight wedding ring with The Orchid?

Yes. Despite the intertwining vine shank, The Orchid has been specifically designed so that a straight wedding band sits flush alongside it. The vine strands taper through the base of the setting to keep the profile clean, so there is no need for a shaped or custom-fitted wedding ring.
