Vintage Style Engagement Rings
Vintage style engagement rings take the design language of another era and rebuild it with modern precision. At Si Vis Amari, we do not sell pre-owned or estate engagement rings. Every ring we make is new, designed using 3D sculpting software from the film industry and made in our UK workshop. You get the millgrain borders, hand engraving, filigree, scrollwork, and open gallery details that define vintage jewellery, but in a ring that has never been worn, with no structural fatigue, no thinned metal, and no compromised settings. It is the character of antique engagement rings without the risk.
Whether you are drawn to the geometric symmetry of art deco engagement rings, the ornate scrollwork of Victorian engagement rings, or the delicate lacework of Edwardian engagement rings, we can recreate it. Every vintage inspired engagement ring we produce is built around your chosen diamond, your preferred metal, and the specific period details that appeal to you.

The search for antique diamond engagement rings often starts with genuine excitement and ends with genuine concern. Rings that are 80 or 100 years old carry decades of wear. Prongs thin, shanks lose metal, settings loosen, and stones sit in mounts that were never designed for modern daily wear. A vintage diamond ring from the 1920s was made for a different lifestyle entirely.
Vintage looking engagement rings from Si Vis Amari solve this. We study the design vocabulary of each period, then reconstruct those details using contemporary techniques and materials. The engraving is done by hand. The millgrain is applied with traditional tooling. The filigree and scrollwork are sculpted in 3D and then cast in precious metal. But the structural engineering underneath is modern: correct wall thickness, properly proportioned settings, and claw work designed to hold a diamond securely for decades of everyday wear.
The result is an antique looking engagement ring that looks and feels like it belongs to another era but performs like the new ring it is. Every piece is hallmarked by the Birmingham Assay Office in accordance with UK law.
Vintage Design Elements
Millgrain. A row of tiny beads applied along the edges of the band, the setting, or the halo border. Millgrain was a defining feature of Edwardian and early Art Deco jewellery. It softens hard edges and catches light in a way that polished metal cannot. It works particularly well in white gold and platinum, where the texture creates subtle contrast against the smooth surfaces of the band.
Hand engraving. Patterns cut directly into the metal surface by a skilled engraver using a graver tool. No two pieces are identical. Hand engraving adds depth and narrative to a ring in a way that machine engraving or cast texture cannot replicate. We use hand engraving on shanks, shoulders, and gallery details across our vintage collection.
Filigree. Delicate metalwork formed from fine wire or pierced sheet, creating an open, lace-like pattern. Filigree was central to Edwardian jewellery and early Art Deco pieces. It allows light to pass through the ring, making it feel lighter and more intricate than a solid mount.
Scrollwork. Flowing, curved ornamental patterns that reference Georgian and Victorian design. Scrollwork adds an organic quality to a ring that geometric Art Deco details do not, and it pairs naturally with oval, pear, and cushion shaped diamonds.
Open gallery. The gallery is the side profile of the ring beneath the centre stone. An open gallery features decorative cutouts, arches, or lattice patterns that reveal the diamond from the side and allow light to enter from multiple angles. It transforms the side view of a ring from a functional mount into a design feature in its own right.
Vintage Styles by Era
Art Deco engagement rings draw from the 1920s and 1930s, defined by bold geometry, clean lines, and symmetrical patterns. Art deco style engagement rings favour step-cut diamonds, particularly emerald cuts, and often incorporate milgrain borders with geometric shoulder details. The art deco diamond ring aesthetic is one of the most recognisable in jewellery history, and it translates beautifully into a modern engagement ring. Vintage engagement rings from the 1920s remain one of the most searched-for styles in the UK.
Victorian engagement rings span the mid to late 1800s and are characterised by ornate detail, scrollwork, and romantic motifs. Victorian style engagement rings often feature intricate gallery work and warm-toned metals. The era favoured round and cushion cuts, and its influence is still evident in many of the most popular engagement ring designs today.
Edwardian engagement rings date from the early 1900s and represent the peak of delicate metalwork in jewellery. Filigree, millgrain, and pierced platinum settings define the Edwardian style. These are the lightest, most intricate designs of any period, and they demand the highest level of craftsmanship to recreate accurately.
Diamond Shapes for Vintage Rings
Certain diamond shapes have a natural affinity with vintage style engagement rings. The shape you choose sets the character of the entire design.
Vintage emerald cut engagement rings are a natural fit for Art Deco inspired designs. The step-cut facets produce long, clean flashes of light that complement geometric settings and millgrain borders. The emerald cut was popularised in the 1920s and remains one of the most authentically vintage shapes available.
Vintage oval engagement rings bring Edwardian elegance. The elongated shape pairs beautifully with filigree shoulders and open gallery work. An oval diamond in a vintage setting creates a ring that feels both classic and distinctive.
Vintage marquise engagement rings have a dramatic, regal quality. The marquise cut was originally commissioned by King Louis XV of France, and its pointed, boat-like shape has been associated with aristocratic jewellery ever since. Set in a vintage mount with millgrain and engraving, the marquise becomes one of the most striking engagement ring shapes.
Vintage solitaire engagement rings strip the design back to a single stone in a detailed setting. The solitaire format lets the vintage metalwork do the talking, with hand engraving, millgrain, and gallery details taking centre stage around one perfectly set diamond.
Old mine cut diamonds are the most historically authentic choice for a vintage inspired ring. These diamonds were cut by hand before modern machinery existed, and their chunky facets, higher crowns, and smaller tables produce a softer, warmer light performance than modern brilliant cuts. We source old mine cut diamonds individually and they pair perfectly with Art Deco and Victorian settings. Explore our old mine cut diamonds page for more detail.
We also craft vintage settings for pear, cushion, radiant, and princess cut diamonds. Whatever shape draws you, get in touch and we will design the vintage setting around it.
Metals for Vintage Engagement Rings
Every vintage style engagement ring in our collection is available in four metals: platinum, 18ct yellow gold, 18ct white gold, and 18ct rose gold.
Platinum was the metal of choice for Edwardian and Art Deco jewellers. Its natural white colour, density, and resistance to wear made it ideal for the fine filigree and millgrain work that defined those periods. It remains the most durable option we offer and will not change colour over time.
Our 18ct white gold uses a high palladium content alloy that maintains a silver-white appearance without rhodium plating. Most jewellers use a standard white gold alloy that yellows over time and requires periodic replating to maintain its colour. Ours does not. The higher palladium content gives our white gold a slightly more muted, warmer tone than platinum, which many customers prefer for vintage designs. The softer colour complements millgrain and engraving beautifully, giving the ring an authentically aged quality without any loss of structural integrity.
Vintage gold engagement rings in 18ct yellow gold are the most historically accurate choice for Victorian inspired designs. Yellow gold was the dominant metal in jewellery until platinum became widely available in the early 1900s. The warmth of yellow gold against a white diamond creates a contrast that feels inherently antique.
Vintage rose gold engagement rings offer a softer, more romantic warmth. Rose gold gained popularity in the Victorian era and has experienced a significant resurgence in recent years. The pink tone pairs naturally with ornate settings and gemstone accents.
All our metals are sourced responsibly and every ring is hallmarked by the Birmingham Assay Office in accordance with UK law.
Lab-Grown and Natural Diamonds
Our vintage style engagement rings are available with both lab-grown and natural diamonds. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, optically, and physically identical to mined diamonds. They are real diamonds, certified independently by the IGI or GIA. The difference is origin, not quality.
Lab-grown diamonds typically cost 60 to 80% less than their natural equivalents at the same specification, which means you can choose a larger centre stone, a higher clarity grade, or invest the difference in more detailed engraving and finishing. For customers who want the most authentic vintage experience, a natural diamond or an old mine cut diamond may feel like the right choice. We source both individually to match your exact requirements.

Gemstones in Vintage Rings
Vintage jewellery has always embraced coloured gemstones alongside diamonds. Vintage sapphire engagement rings reference the deep blues favoured in Victorian and Edwardian settings. Vintage ruby engagement rings carry a richness that pairs naturally with yellow gold and Art Deco geometry. Vintage opal engagement rings and vintage emerald engagement rings were popular across multiple eras and create striking alternatives to all-diamond designs.
We can incorporate sapphires, rubies, emeralds, opals, and other coloured gemstones into any vintage design. Explore our coloured gemstone engagement rings for inspiration, or get in touch to discuss your ideas.
Wedding Ring Compatibility
Pairing a wedding ring with a vintage style engagement ring needs careful consideration. Many antique and vintage inspired rings have wider settings, protruding gallery details, or decorative shoulders that can prevent a straight wedding band from sitting flush.
Every Si Vis Amari vintage design is engineered with wedding ring compatibility considered from the outset. Where possible, we design the profile so a straight band sits cleanly against the engagement ring. Where a shaped or contoured band is the better option, we can design and make a matching wedding ring that follows the exact contours of the engagement ring for a perfect fit.
Bespoke Vintage Designs
Every ring we make is already designed individually, but if you have a specific period, reference image, or family heirloom you want us to draw inspiration from, we can create something entirely bespoke. A unique vintage engagement ring might combine Art Deco geometry with Edwardian filigree, or reinterpret a family ring in a new metal with a different stone. The 3D sculpting software we use gives us complete creative freedom to blend eras and details in ways that conventional jewellery CAD cannot achieve.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a vintage style engagement ring?
A vintage style engagement ring is a new ring designed with the aesthetic details of a historical period, such as Art Deco, Victorian, or Edwardian. It features elements like millgrain borders, hand engraving, filigree, scrollwork, and open gallery work, but is made with modern materials and construction techniques. Unlike an actual antique ring, a vintage inspired engagement ring has no prior wear, no structural fatigue, and is built to last decades of daily use.
Do you sell genuine antique engagement rings?
No. We specialise exclusively in new, vintage inspired designs. Every ring is designed from scratch, made in our UK workshop, and hallmarked by the Birmingham Assay Office. We recreate the character and craftsmanship of antique engagement rings without the risks that come with rings that have been worn for decades, including thinned metal, loosened settings, and compromised structural integrity.
What is the difference between Art Deco, Victorian, and Edwardian styles?
Art Deco (1920s to 1930s) is defined by bold geometry, clean lines, and symmetrical patterns. Victorian (mid to late 1800s) features ornate scrollwork, romantic motifs, and warm-toned metals. Edwardian (early 1900s) is the most delicate, characterised by fine filigree, millgrain, and intricate pierced metalwork. We can design engagement rings in any of these styles or blend elements from multiple eras.
Which diamond shape is best for a vintage ring?
Emerald cuts are the most naturally Art Deco. Ovals suit Edwardian designs. Cushion and round cuts work across all eras. Marquise shapes add regal drama. For the most authentic vintage feel, old mine cut diamonds replicate the hand-cut stones of the 18th and 19th centuries. Every shape works well in a vintage setting, and we build each mount to the exact dimensions of the individual stone.
What makes your white gold different?
We use an 18ct white gold alloy with a higher palladium content than industry standard. This gives our white gold a natural silver-white appearance that does not require rhodium plating. Most jewellers use a standard alloy that yellows over time and needs periodic replating. Ours maintains its colour without servicing. The slightly muted, warmer tone is ideal for vintage designs, particularly those with millgrain detail.
How much does a vintage style engagement ring cost?
Our vintage engagement rings start from approximately £2,000 for a simpler design with hand engraving and a lab-grown diamond. Pricing is primarily quote-led because vintage designs vary significantly in complexity, from a clean solitaire with millgrain to a fully engraved Art Deco mount with filigree shoulders. Use the configurator on any product page for indicative pricing, or contact us for a detailed quote.
Can you recreate a family heirloom or specific vintage ring?
Yes. If you have a reference image, a family ring you want reinterpreted, or a specific period you want to draw from, we can design and make it. We use 3D sculpting software from the film industry that allows us to recreate intricate period details that conventional jewellery CAD cannot produce. Book a consultation and bring your references.
Will a vintage engagement ring sit flush with a wedding ring?
All Si Vis Amari vintage designs consider wedding ring compatibility from the outset. Where possible, we design the profile so a straight band sits flush. Where the engagement ring profile requires a shaped band, we can design and make a matching wedding ring that follows the exact contours for a perfect fit.
